Is your family complete? Are you considering tubal ligation (having
your tubes tied) or vasectomy?
A Woman's Place Ob/Gyn is now offering Essure, a new alternative to
traditional Laparoscopic Tubal Ligation (having your tubes tied) for:
A permanent answer for contraception
Hormone free solution
Incision free (scarless)
Minimal anesthesia
Faster recovery
FDA approved
Essure is a procedure that only takes minutes to complete. There is no
cutting, minimal discomfort, a fast recovery and less risk of injury
as compared to traditional Laparoscopic Tubal Ligation (tubes tied)
with Essure. Covered by most insurances, Essure is a safe effective
procedure performed in our office.
A soft, flexible spring like coil called a micro-insert is placed into
each fallopian tube which over 3 months forms a barrier to sperm
passage. Essure is performed through a hysteroscope (a long thin
camera which is passed into the uterine cavity through the cervix.
Unlike tubal ligation (tubes tied) or vasectomy, Essure does not
require incisions or punctures in the body and there is no cutting,
clipping, suturing, or burning of tubes. Essure decreases the
likelihood of an injury to your internal organs and ensures that you
will have a much faster recovery because it is incision less, scarless and there is minimal pain or discomfort during or after the procedure.
During the three months after the procedure, your body and the micro-
insert work together to form a tissue barrier that prevents sperm from
reaching the egg. The micro-inserts used for Essure do not contain or
release hormones and are made of an inner flexible stainless steel
coil surrounded by an outer coil made of nickel titanium alloy. These
are the same materials used in other medical products such as blood
vessel grafts and heart valve replacements.
Essure is non-reversible and has a lower pregnancy rate than either
tubal ligation (tubes tied) or vasectomy. Patients are encouraged to
have an Essure Confirmatory Test, which is a special type of x-ray
three months following the procedure to ensure that the fallopian
tubes are permanently blocked (occluded).
